How is coaching different to counselling or therapy?
-
Counselling and therapy are essentially about resolving
an experience from the past that is preventing a person living their
lives to the full. Or perhaps therapy is required to stop addictive
or compulsive behaviour.
-
Coaching is about the future.
-
The coach accepts the client’s
current situation and then works with the client to create
the future life that the client would really like.
Where can coaching help?
-
Coaching can help with a huge range of issues.
From making a radical change in you career, preparing for redundancy
or retirement through to improving your relationships with
family or colleagues.
-
You can be coached on how to handle a difficult
meeting or to boost your confidence in any situation.
-
Coaching
will identify why certain situations keep reoccurring in
your life and give you the tools to make the changes you
want to break the cycle.
What coaching IS NOT
-
It is NOT therapy or counselling, which are appropriate
when trying to resolve deep trauma or abuse that happened in
the past and are causing problems in the present.
-
Drink problems
or serious eating disorders are not appropriate subjects for
coaching.
-
Coaching is forward looking and works on the basis that
you are where you are today, however you got there, and that
you can chose your own future that does not have to be limited
by your past.
How quickly will I get results?
-
Coaching is not an instant remedy.
-
However because coaching is clearly focused on personal
performance, results can often be seen very quickly.
-
Identifying
the Key Performance Indicators for an individual or a business
can in itself start to bring improvements by just by bringing
the owners focus to them.
-
Progress is monitored regularly to confirm how the changes
are impacting on the performance.
How long does coaching take?
-
Most clients sign up for a 6 month program of coaching,
but if a client has a single issue to be resolved then a shorter
period can be agreed.
-
When the initial 6 months are completed,
many clients after seeing the impact on their life may choose
to carry on indefinitely, regarding the coach as a member of
their life.
-
The coaching agreement can be cancelled by either
party at any time by giving 30 days notice.
